Muscle Maker Grill has opened the doors to a restaurant in founder Rod Silva’s hometown of Newark, N.J., marking the chain’s 45^th location nationwide.

“I am thrilled to bring Muscle Maker Grill to the neighborhood I grew up in,” Silva said. “To be able to return to the Ironbound section and bring with me our healthy concept that will have a positive impact on people’s lives is a dream come true. Growing up on Ann Street, I always believed that Newark was a special place, so I am delighted to open a restaurant in the city.”

Franchise owner Yisbel Rodriguez decided to open a Muscle Maker Grill restaurant in Newark because he recognized the void in healthy restaurant franchises in the area and is a firm believer of Muscle Maker Grill’s unique concept.

At Muscle Maker Grill, everything is prepared fresh daily on premises. Its menu features lean, protein-based dishes, as well as a wide selection of protein shakes and sugar-free cheesecake.

Muscle Maker Grill was founded in 1995 by Silva with the goal of offering people a nutritious alternative to fast-food restaurants.

Here’s a breakdown of the differences between fast food and Muscle Maker Grill food.

Muscle Maker Grill offers the same quick, convenient benefits of fast food, but without all of the unwanted fats, oils and carbohydrates. We put a healthy twist on all of your favorite foods and flavors – American, Asian, Cajun, Italian, Mexican and Southwestern.

Unlike fast food restaurants that use full fat meat and poultry, we only use lean chicken breast, USDA choice steak, turkey meat, and turkey bacon. We substitute whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread and brown rice for its white counterparts. We use zero fat sour cream, low-fat cheeses, fat-free and zero carb salad dressings, no cream vodka sauces and our famous zero-carb signature sauce.

We also don’t use a deep fryer in any of our restaurants!
